Rustic Debutante, ridden by Nathan Punch, claimed victory in the Kelsey Watts Memorial Handicap, its first career win after five starts.
“She got knocked down at Seymour last week, so we decided to take her up to Wodonga,” John said.
“It’s one of the best surfaces in Victoria, that’s not just me talking, the jockeys who get around to all the tracks love Wodonga.
“Nathan Punch is one of brightest young jockeys on the Victorian scene and he’s flying under the radar at the moment.
“He rode her accordingly, he did very well.”
Ledger had two other runners on the day, I’ve Got Chills finished fifth in race one, but pulled up sore, while I’m Ready For This was one of the favourites in race five before ending up fourth.
“It was disappointing, when we left home we thought we could go pretty close in both races,” John said.
“We’ve been going to Wodonga for a long time and it’s always been a good track for us.
“We’ve got quite a few we’re looking to take to Albury next weekend, it’s a good time of the year to be racing horses.”
Albury trainer Jodie Bohr returned to the winners circle with Midnight Swing getting home by a length to claim race three, while Wodonga’s Sylvia Thompson tasted victory on her home track with Aunty Sue sneaking through in race two.
