Travelling exhibition, Memories in my Luggage, features photos and memorabilia from German migration from 1935 to 1956.
Benalla’s German Kaffee and Kuchen group have donated items from their luggage to the exhibition in the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Learning Centre.
The exhibition launches on November 1.
The event is hosted by German-born author Sabine Nielsen who migrated to Australia in 1972.
“You can relocate your home and find a new homeland, but Heimat is what you carry inside: your memories, your connections to a place and people, a feeling of belonging – your roots,” she said.
“By stepping into the world of migrants, arriving here from war torn Europe, we explore the migration experience.
“The stories will resonate with the experiences of many migrants and refugees who have left their homeland to start a new life in Australia.”
