The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning has been asked by the EPA to do more testing on the Hunchback Hill land.
“We are now working with the EPA to determine the most suitable approach to undertaking the additional works, which we hope will be completed by March of next year,” the department’s Hume regional director Clare Kiely said.
Testing in August and September found traces of lead and benzopyrene, a plastic polymer used in clay targets.
Seven samples were taken.
One returned a reading and showed lead traces below the threshold of 600 milligrams per kilogram set by the National Environment Protection Measure.
Signs warning against soil disturbance will remain in the area.
