The 32-year-old has been accused of stealing a taxi from Beechworth Road in Wodonga at about 10.45pm Thursday night, after threatening the driver with a weapon.
Police are yet to confirm reports a knife was used in the carjacking.
The vehicle was later found abandoned across the border in Albury after crashing into a power pole at the intersection of Kiewa and Hovell streets.
Victorian and NSW officers allegedly identified Kennedy from camera footage inside the taxi and worked together to find him at a home in Glendaloch Court.
Kennedy briefly appeared in Albury Local Court on Monday afternoon, where he was extradited to Victoria on the charges of aggravated carjacking.
The matter was expected to be heard again in Wodonga Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
