The drunken incident occurred about 11pm on Saturday at the Birallee McDonald’s in front of young workers and about dozen customers.
Police have described the incident as disappointing, noting that the man’s actions would have created fear for those inside the building.
Footage uploaded online shows the Wodonga man standing at the front counter next to broken bottles and a tipped over ice cooler, gesturing to staff.
A staff member can be heard telling the man to sit down or leave.
“I paid for it,” he replied before becoming increasingly agitated and smashing items.
The man knocked over two cash registers during the tirade and spat over the counter.
He also knocked over a napkin holder and kicked the cooler through the business.
He repeatedly swore and demanded food.
“Call the cops, I don’t give a f---,” he said to a female staff member.
He continued to swear, call the woman a ----.
“I paid for my s---, where’s my food?” the man demanded.
Despite being highly agitated during the incident – which appeared to have been filmed by another patron – the man was cooperative when police when they arrived.
Sergeant Tim Mooney said a 28-year-old Wodonga man had been arrested at the scene and was charged with criminal damage and being drunk in a public place.
He was taken into custody without incident.
“It’s disappointing that an alcohol affected male has gone to a family restaurant and placed staff and others present in fear,” Sergeant Mooney said.
“There would have been at least a dozen customers in there and numerous cars going through the drive through, and there were at least 10 staff.
“As soon as police arrived he complied with instructions.”
Police have a copy of the footage, which has been viewed tens-of-thousands of times online.
“We’ve seen it,” Sergeant Mooney said.
“It’s been forwarded onto the informant.
“It will make up part of our brief of evidence (for court).”
The man has been charged with criminal damage and being drunk in a public place.
