Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy said his meeting on Thursday with NSW Roads, Maritime and Freight Minister Melinda Pavey gave him confidence about the summer’s planned consultation period.
“I just felt she was very genuine in what she was talking about and it wasn’t about trying to ban things and make life difficult for boaters,” Mr McCurdy said.
“She said if we can get consultation to show that a trial is not necessary, we won’t do the trial.”
A possible three-year trial that restricts high-wash boating activities has concerned the boating industry, with many users based in Victoria.
“The key message to them is that they need to have their say when these consultation meetings come up,” Mr McCurdy said. “Because the minister’s genuinely listening and genuinely trying to get good outcomes for all.”
