Curphey exceeded expectations in running a time of 3 hours, 38 minutes in a massive field of 50,060 runners.
“I was really happy,” Curphey said.
“The course was more undulating than I thought and in the last 200-metres I just soaked it up and enjoyed the amazing atmosphere.
“There were thousands of people watching coming into Central Park.”
In drizzling rain, Curphey felt comfortable throughout the race, finishing in the top 4.5 per cent of her 45 to 49 age group.
Just over 21,000 women finished the race.
About 900 Australians took part in the marathon with many being based in the US.
“I trained really hard for four months and my race plan was to start off fast and hold,” she said.
“That’s how I usually go about it.
“I checked my time every now and then and things pretty much went to plan.”
Curphey will now focus on Albury Tennis Association pennant and local triathlons before turning her attention to the Gold Coast (July), Sydney (September) and Melbourne (October) marathons.
She has been accepted into next year’s Paris marathon but is an unlikely starter.
“I’ve ran in the Melbourne marathon before but it will be my first time at the Gold Coast and Sydney,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to ticking them off my list.”
