Corowa’s Marcus Fraser opened the event with a one-over par 73 at Gold Coast’s Royal Pines Resort.
He trails by seven shots from equal leaders Adam Bland and Jordan Zunic at six-under par.
Fraser started on the back nine and birdied the 11th and 16th holes before giving a stroke back on the 17th.
He dropped further down the leaderboard with further bogeys on the fourth and seventh to close his round.
Meanwhile, Yarrawonga product Frazer Droop finished five-over par.
Droop also played the back nine first and was four-over par through his opening five holes before a birdie on the 15th and another bogey at 18.
Two birdies on the front nine were cancelled out by another two dropped shots to finish the day well off the pace.
US Masters champion Sergio Garcia held the lead for most of the day after finishing at five-under par.
