Sophie Elias won the mixed traditional weaponary section, in the 13 to 17 years age group, as well as snaring two third placings.
“Sophie’s a great asset to the club and helps out the younger ones,” Border Karate School’s Nick Habenschuss said.
“There’s a number of the younger competitors saying they want to go next year, so Sophie’s been a great influence to the younger students.”
Elias’s winning performance at the National All Styles titles in Sydney was the highlight from the strong contingent.
However, Kye Oag also snared two third placings in the 12-14 years, while Martyn Allwood finished runner-up in two events, including the open black belt.
“Basically, I say win or lose, it’s about having a go and doing your best and enjoy yourself,” Habenschuss said.
“One of the biggest things I’ve learnt from teaching is the friendships with people.”
