Developer Travis Barker was present to witness council unanimously support the project to be built on 10,512 square metres of land fronting Honour Avenue including freehold land purchased from the council.
Existing dwelling on the site will be demolished to make way for a main building featuring convenience store, kitchen and dining area, lounge and showers.
There will be four truck re-fuelling bays and three double-sided car re-fuelling stations, 34 carparking spaces and five B-double truck parking spots.
Also, four parking bays for car and trailer will also be created.
The development is also expected to create 20 jobs when opened in September next year.
An additional traffic exit point onto Honour Avenue will be created, but will be left turn only with a raised central median strip to be created to prevent vehicles turning right as per requirements from NSW Roads and Maritime Services.
Traffic wanting to turn right back towards the Corowa township will be required to use the Honour Avenue-Federation Way roundabout which leads into the council-owned saleyards complex.
Cr Fred Longmire admitted to having some intitial misgivings about the project, but has had any concerns allayed by a recent onsite inspection.
“I’ve spoken to the agents as well and they are not concerned about it,” he said.
The service centre will open 24 hours, seven days a week.
In his report to council, infrastructure and environment director Peter Gall said: “The location near the saleyards is convenient and practical to service the needs of those using the saleyards as well as potentially capturing interstate travellers”.
