He had a promising future, a loving family, mates he should be growing old with.
It could have been any of us.
Every day the loss of Darcy is felt by the Young family, his Albury Thunder teammates and hundreds of others in our community.
The 17-year-old was, and is, more than a statistic.
His loss left a hole in the lives of many which cannot be quantified.
The real road toll is much more than numbers – it permeates our community affecting families, friends and strangers.
Over the past week, we’ve explored the far-reaching and seemingly unending affects of the road toll through the crash that took Darcy’s life.

The series is a part of a #SurviveTheDrive campaign which endeavors to show the affects of road trauma.
Not because they are easy stories to tell, write or read, but because they are important and people need to know.
His family, teammates and a stranger who tried to help him, all shared their stories for one reason – to help put a stop to the road toll.
Through grief and complex emotions they spoke; in the hope people would listen.
And no one else will have to feel their loss.
Please, don’t let their bravery, courage and candour be for nothing.
Our road toll is already too high, please stay safe and #SurviveTheDrive.
