Coles Wodonga is giving surplus fresh fruit, vegetables and bread to Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare under its partnership with national food agency SecondBite.
FoodShare chairman Peter Muldoon said the arrangement, which began in October, would help redirect food to more than 140 agencies, schools and neighbourhood houses.
“On any given day 2300 people in our region require food assistance, with over 50 per cent of these dependent children,” Mr Muldoon said.
He said FoodShare was the only dedicated, local logistics centre in this area equipped to manage large volumes of rescued food.
