City Colts and Yarrawonga-Mulwala hold down the top-two positions and lead the charge for a home final, but the third-placed Rovers United-Bruck have plans to change that.
The Hawks start their run to the finals at home to Ovens Valley United this weekend, before travelling to Benalla and finishing with a bye.
Captain Jordan Blades knows his side can’t afford to drop any points.
“It’s pretty crucial to try lock in a top-two position coming into finals to gain a home ground advantage, and, if the weather plays a part, it’s handy to have that advantage,” Blades said.
“Our ground is a little bit tricky to play on for sides that haven’t been there too often, so it’s good to have that home ground knowledge.
“None of the top-three play each other, so it’s just going to be a matter of trying to pick up a few extra wickets and pile on a few extra runs when we get the chance.
“There hasn’t been any outright wins in our comp this season, so that’s probably out of the question.”
Yarrawonga-Mulwala will be expected to hand Wangaratta another loss.
City Colts will look to retain top spot with victory against Delatite.
Greta and Benalla Bushrangers both find themselves outside the top-four, but the winner will keep the door open for a finals berth, while fourth-placed Beechworth has the bye, but faces Wangaratta and Ovens Valley United in the final rounds.
