Unfortunately I succumbed to their smooth talk, persuasive and appearing authentic manner. These people introduced themselves as "Telstra technicians" and I had no reason to doubt them, with their familiar talk re: internet connections.
It was my vulnerability that allowed these "vermin" into my computer by remote control, to supposedly rid my internet site of "hackers". All the while, unbeknown to me, I was being hacked!
Alarm bells rang loud and clear when I was told about $1000 being put into my bank account and for me to withdraw it.
Fortunately, I didn't go along with this and ended the conversation. These people contacted me again by phone, for not contacting them. Even though I hung up, they tried four more times, after which the phone was left off the hook for a time.
On reflection, I should have been wiser with accepting people at face (or voice) value. These people gave me a phone number, names and addresses so that I could contact them at any time.
Telstra has now made it quite clear to me, that they do not contact their customers by phone, but SMS or email. Even then, be careful. On advice, I contacted my bank and put a hold on my accounts. Bank staff were wonderfully understanding.
My computer was checked by my IT and all was well, thank goodness. This experience has really shocked me and made last week one I never want to repeat. It was traumatic to say the least, causing me mental and physical anguish. After this, I didn't want to have anything more to do with the internet, and all that goes with it.
Everyone, be wary of "good people" bearing gifts, unless you are sure it is genuine. I have learnt the hard way.

It’s unacceptable and disrespectful to Diggers
I am bitterly disappointed to hear that the Daniel Andrews Government is seeking alternative views for the commemoration of our most sacred day, Anzac Day.
Daniel Andrews continues to strip back everything about what it means to be Australian.
First, he is allowing Australia Day to become negotiable, and now, he is polling communities regarding support for commemorating the conflict between our indigenous people upon European settlement to be included on Anzac Day. Frontier Wars like the first landing by Europeans and even the Eureka stockade can be recognised on other days and I am bitterly disappointed that Daniel Andrews is meddling in this sacred space.
As Shadow Minister for Veterans in Victoria, I fully support recognition of our first Australians. However, Anzac Day is a day that we pause to commemorate our fallen, current and ex-servicemen and women who have fought on foreign shores to defend our magnificent country.
Anzac Day is a day for communities to come together and commemorate and show respect, not a day to be divisive within our community.
RSLs throughout Victoria are disappointed with this attack on Anzac Day, and I believe Daniel Andrews polling now opens up Anzac Day as an opportunity for minority groups to protest which is wrong, it is unacceptable and downright disrespectful to our Diggers.
