Gundowring Licorice Ice Cream was judged Champion Ice Cream in the 2018 Australian Grand Dairy Awards this month.
The brand pipped Dooley’s Lemon Curd Ice Cream and The Melbourne Convention Centre Hazelnut Ice Cream for the top gong.
Gundowring Finest Ice Cream owner James Crooke welcomed the results.
“Technically it’s a really fantastic ice cream and it keeps winning awards,” he said.
“It is a huge accolade that both our small, tight-knit ice cream team, and the farm team can be rightly proud of, as we all continue to yield fantastic produce.”
The Gundowring Licorice Ice Cream won Champion Ice Cream and overall Best Dairy Product in the 2010 Australian Grand Dairy Awards as well as being a finalist in 2012, 2009 and 2008.
The 19th annual Australian Grand Dairy Awards are the country’s most prestigious national dairy awards and the highest recognition for any dairy producer.
A panel of 24 judges tested more than 400 gold medal-winning Australian dairy products over two days late in 2017.
The panel of judges, led by dairy educators Russell Smith and Mark Livermore, commended Gundowring Fine Foods’ Licorice Ice Cream for its deliciously soft licorice pieces combined beautifully within a smooth creamy licorice flavoured ice cream base.
