The majority of politicians do not rate very highly in the public’s estimation.
Most of them will compromise their beliefs and principles just to garner a few more votes or, a few more dollars.
A case in point are all those politicians who, despite receiving a very generous base salary, are claiming hundreds of thousands of dollars in travelling entitlements to top up their salaries.
Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack had, at one stage, come under fire for claiming $280 a night to stay at his wife's investment property in Canberra.
The property may be in his wife’s name but he still owns half.
Nice work if you can get it.
And to top it all off we now have deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce doing the dirty on his wife by having an adulterous affair with a member of his staff.
And to think that this bloke is our No.1 stand-in citizen when prime minister Malcolm Turnbull is out of the country.
This certainly doesn’t say much for the rest of us.
You can only imagine the humiliation and embarrassment this has caused his wife and their four children.
This swaggering hayseed apparently can’t keep his mind above his navel.
If he cannot honour his marriage vows then how can he be trusted to honour his commitments to the electorate?
If he has any principles left then he should at least resign as the leader of the National Party. This bloke has defiled of the sanctity of marriage. He has to go.
Green bin ‘a cash grab’
Once again those who do the right thing get kicked in the guts.
Approximately 12 to 18 months before the green waste bin introduction a Border initiative took place to halve waste.
This included composting education, a compost bin and the small scrap bin.
Now many people took this course since it was booked out but this means nothing when telling council a green bin is not required.
- We can't individualise who has or doesn't have that bin (yet no problem in the past)
- It's cheaper then the two-bin system as Albury would charge us more (yet our red is fortnightly now and apparently Wodonga are subsiding the green bin)
- It’s due “to legislation”.
What a joke.
Yet again do the right thing and get kicked in the guts because as council states “the majority don’t”.
Seems like a cash grab to me if you’re going to charge people even if they return the bin.
Experts not interested
It is most disappointing that after a dozen years safety experts, instructors and police are uninterested in handbrake starts for seniors in automatic cars.
If handbrake starts are always used, gentle acceleration and release-reapply handbrake to test direction of travel will get the vehicle in the correct gear before a crash occurs.
A detailed step procedure is available for the asking, and for my demonstration to authorities, but they remain aloof.
