SATURDAY’S A Day on the Green show has been hailed a success, with more than 6000 people in attendance.

Event founder Michael Newton said the show had been “a lot of fun” with the performers forming a solid lineup.

“The lineup worked really well with punters getting into fantastic, original music,” he said.

“Having an international artist up there in James Blunt was lots of fun.

“Hopefully we can have another international headliner again.”

A crew of about 200 people worked at the event, which involved a stage being built from scratch.

“It’s quite an exercise to put on what’s called a greenfield show, where you have to bring everything in,” Mr Newton said.

While Blunt headlined the show, Mr Newton said Pete Murray had received the best response from the audience.

Planning for next year’s event started a fortnight ago with the lineup likely to be announced mid-year.

“A Day on the Green is usually targeting artists with some history, which usually appeals to a slightly older demographic,” Mr Newton said. 

“We’re talking to a lot of artists about next year. 

“We’re looking forward to next year.”

The show marked the 15^th time the event has been hosted at All Saints. 

Mr Newton said it was growing in popularity. 

“We’ve done nearly 500 shows now in wineries around the country,” he said. 

“I thought the lineup worked really well from the bottom to the top. 

“It was a really good day out.”
