Corryong College received $2.2 million Victorian government funding last year to build new facilities so the senior campus could also accommodate the prep to year 4 students.
“No decisions have been made on the future of the current Corryong College junior campus after it is vacated, which is anticipated to be in 2020,” an Education Department spokesman told The Border Mail this week.
Corryong College principal Fran Heath said two meetings on Tuesday were held to update community members about the situation.
“I wanted it to be open and transparent,” she said.
“This community’s a fantastic community and they deserve to be just as informed as I inform my staff and parents.
“It was those no longer affiliated with the college that I was reaching out to.”
Ms Heath said about 20 people attended the morning session while another dozen came along to the evening event.
“I just spoke about the emotional ties that community have with that junior campus,” she said.
“One member said five generations (of their family) had been through, so it’s quite significant.”
The principal said improving education remained the school’s priority and a new building on a single site would assist that.
“Logistically, it’s going to be a lot better, but also for our learning and teaching pedagogy where collaboration’s really the key, that’s going to be a hell of a lot stronger, we’re really excited,” she said.
