An updated gift and hospitality policy was passed by Indigo Council at last night’s meeting, requiring any gifts worth over $30 to be declared to a manager.
Cr Bernard Gaffney quipped that he wanted to check his behaviour had been appropriate while attending a funding announcement at Beechworth Brewery last week.
“Both Cr (Larry) Goldsworthy and I were offered a slice of pizza to which I declined,” he said.
Chief executive Trevor Ierino confirmed the food would come under the definition of “reasonable hospitality”, which councillors were allowed to accept.
“If I was you I would have taken the pizza,” he said.
The policy was adopted after councillors unanimously voted in favour.
