With the Roos rejecting his third clearance application to join Mansfield this week, the tall forward plans to make his next move with the Eagles’ season kicking off against Shepparton Swans next weekend.
Lawton is living and working in Mansfield and is likely to use those factors in his bid to be released from the contract.
The former Riverina league star said earlier this year he would rather sit out the season than play for the Ovens and Murray club.
Corowa-Rutherglen is confident Lawton’s contract is binding and believes it has done everything possible to accommodate him at John Foord Oval.
He has played for Mansfield during the pre-season.
Lawton missed the first six games through suspension last year, but still finished third in the best and fairest behind Brent Rose.
