Community donations via Woolworths added another $20,000 to the Border appeal tally.
Wodonga Lions Club’s Phil Wilkins said Friday’s Wodonga collection realised more than $87,000, with Woolworths contributing a further $11,664.
“With a few outstanding donations to come, we are confident we will have cracked the $100,000,” Mr Wilkins said.
He thanked more than 170 volunteer collectors and the tally room crew of 30.
“We extend our gratitude to the community of Wodonga and surrounds for their continued generosity for this exceptionally worthy cause,” he said.
Albury Civic Fire Station captain John Vandeven said the Albury campaign produced $68,000, with another $10,000 from Woolworths.
“People were friendly, willing to give, people were putting in $50 notes at times, kids coming out with what they’ve saved all year, just to give to us,” he said.
Mr Vandeven said although the total was a little down on last year, it still represented a fantastic effort from the community.
“There’s one guy, he comes out every year with his large coffee jar full of coins that he donates,” he said.
“So we have our regulars and we do appreciate everything and every bit of money that’s collected because it all goes to a great cause.”
The overall Good Friday Appeal announced a midnight total of $18,043,251.
