The Australian Electoral Commission on Friday released its proposed Victorian redistribution.
Under the plan, the seat of Indi is largely unchanged apart from the loss of Tungamah and inclusion of Euroa.
Tungamah and surrounds was the only part of Moira not in the seat of Murray under previous boundaries.
The AEC’s rejig, prompted by the need for another seat in Melbourne to take Victoria to 38, involves Murray being renamed after Aboriginal rights activists Doug and Gladys Nicholls.
The loss of Murray, means Indi is the only federal electorate with a name tied to the river which separates NSW and Victoria.
Indi is an Aboriginal name for the river in its upper reaches.
The east of Strathbogie Shire, including Euroa and Violet Town, will join Indi.
The Liberal Party had proposed a radical change to Indi which would have seen it stretch from close to Echuca to Corryong.
Meanwhile, Beechworth-born medical pioneer Jean Macnamara is giving her name to the seat of Melbourne Ports and a new electorate honouring former prime minister Malcolm Fraser is being created.
Objections to the plan can be made with the Australian Electoral Commission until May 4.
