You will find that quite a few parents allow younger children onto their own profiles, thus mixing with all their parents’ friend list.
Articles such as “Facebook ‘frenemies’ most likely to hurt kids”, printed in the Sydney Morning Herald last week, are starting to appear regularly.
In that article, police were warning parents that children as young as eight were at risk from online predators because they are flouting Facebook age restrictions.
If parents are going to have their underage children on Facebook with them, they need to at least make sure that the child’s privacy settings are closed right down to “private” and “friends only”, as the “friends of friends” setting still leaves them wide open to potential problems.
