A researcher at Charles Sturt University in Thurgoona has discovered strong populations of the endangered Sloane’s froglet in Thurgoona, Corowa and Wahgunyah.

Alexandra Knight, who is completing a PhD on the species, is hopeful the frogs, identified by their rare mustard and grey-coloured markings, are making a comeback.
But Ms Knight said the frogs, which were first discovered in Tocumwal in 1957, were still under threat.
They had been under threat by a new $500,000 trunk sewer at Corowa, but Ms Knight praised Corowa Council for finding a way for the construction to continue while protecting the frog’s habitat.
Workers would bore under and around the wetlands, Ms Knight said.
“It’s a win-win situation,” she said.
Ms Knight, who began her three-year study in April, said she had found her 10th Sloane’s froglet in wetlands around the university last week.
