Unrestrained farm animals were seen dashing through the streets shortly before 8am.
The animals - two donkeys and three llamas - had escaped from their home at St Matthews Church in Kiewa Street.
A Border Mail reader who took this photo of the bolters said they sprinted north up Kiewa Street to Wilson Street before turning around running back to the church.
The strays were quickly gathered by relieved church members, and the animals were back in their pen within 15 minutes.
Witnesses say traffic was not inconvenienced.
Archdeacon Peter MacLeod-Miller commented on the story today.
"There is work being carried out on the fences at the moment we believe it is possible someone deliberately let them out," he said.
Thanks to the good people of Albury for getting them back."
