Paul John Lawler appeared in Albury Local Court yesterday when Director of Public Prosecutions representative John Hall tendered a brief of evidence to magistrate Tony Murray.
Mr Murray considered the evidence and committed Lawler, 47, of Gulpha Street, for trial in the District Court at Albury.
The case has been listed for mention on Monday during the present sittings before Judge Colin Charteris.
It has been alleged a woman, 20, had been drinking at two hotels in Albury and spent time with Lawler who invited her to the Black Uhlans clubhouse in South Albury.
Several people got into a taxi for a trip to the clubhouse on May 29.
The woman smoked cannabis after arriving there and felt spaced out and drunk before passing out.
She woke to find another man allegedly having intercourse with her.
The woman wanted to go home, but Lawler said she could go to his residence and sleep on a couch.
It has been alleged the woman later woke to find Lawler having sex with her and asked to be taken home to Wodonga.
She went home and complained to a friend about the alleged sexual assault.
They went to the Wodonga hospital accident and emergency section where a nurse was told about what happened.
A doctor was notified and the woman was told no tests would be done without the police being told.
Police at Wodonga were informed and attended the hospital.
They contacted an Albury detective to provide information about what allegedly happened.
An application for a search warrant was made by a detective to Albury Court on June 1 and it was granted.
Two days later at 7.30am police searched the Black Uhlans clubhouse.
Lawler has been on bail since being charged with the offence and Mr Murray continued it yesterday.
