JAKE BOURKE:
BRENDAN FEVOLA:
“It’s a great little town here and I can’t wait to bring the kids here.
“There’s been a great turn out. It’s exciting.”
JB:
BF:
“I was going to go over to the US but I got bitten by a spider and ended up in hospital for two weeks.
“I was supposed to be in America at that time.
“Yarrawonga contacted me and then came to me with a great deal.
“I couldn’t say no, basically.”
JB:
BF:
“I love my footy too so it’s going to work out well.
“I’ve been told I’m supposed to hate Albury.
“So I hate Albury already.”
JB:
BF:
“I think the game we play them is on a Sunday I’m unavailable so we won’t meet them until the finals.
“As I said to a few of the boys though on the way up, with the competitive nature footballers have, I’m pretty sure once I get stuck into it I’ll want to start playing away games as well.
“Once I get to know all the boys and that, they won’t be able to keep me away.”
JB:
BF:
“It’s not true at all.
“Matty Tripp is the bloke who rang me up to start with but he’s a massive supporter of the footy club.
“I get along with him really well. I think he’s sold his business anyway.”
JB:
BF:
“It’s my own fault. I’ve moved on from that.”
JB:
BF:
“They can say whatever they want. It doesn’t really bother me.
“As long as they can stand up for themselves.”
JB:
BF:
“It’s probably the best out of Melbourne and right up there with the best in Victoria.
“I’ve got no qualms with how good the footy is going to be.”
JB:
BF:
“That was a struggle.
“I’ve got two months to get myself ready.
“Full forwards don’t run too much anyway.”
JB:
BF:
“Obviously kicking goals is what I’m getting paid to do so I’ll be upset if I don’t kick too many.
“Hopefully I can kick a few here and there.
“If I can kick five a game that’d be nice.”
JB:
A few people, most notably the league’s general manager, are concerned about the competition’s integrity.
BF:
“Lucky I don’t bet any more.
“If people want to waste their money on things that are out of their control then that’s up to them.
“I’ve been told you can’t bet over 30 bucks anyway.
“I think it’s a bit of an over-reaction about the integrity of the game.
“Ten and 20-dollar bets here and there aren’t going to affect the way myself or the team play.”
JB:
BF:
“It’s a weird song.
“I’ve got to learn it.
“Hopefully I get to sing it.”
JB:
BF:
“It all depends on how I’m feeling I suppose.
“They are all hard games when you’re 31.”
JB:
BF:
JB:
You finished behind him in the VFL goalkicking this season and have played against him before. What can we expect?
BF:
“He’s pretty short.
“You might not be able to see him out on the ground.
“He won the goal-kicking this year, Port Melbourne won the premiership. He’s a great player. He’ll kick a lot of goals.”
JB:
If you told me a month ago we’d have a shootout between the VFL’s two leading goal-kickers in the O and M this season I would have laughed. Thanks for your time and all the best this season.
BF:
“I’m looking forward to Easter and hopefully everyone can get there.
“It’s going to a big day for the club. We’ve lost the last few grannies but hopefully we can change that this year.”
