LEADING Albury trainer Brett Cavanough cleaned up at the annual Southern District Racing Association awards night at Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Friday.
Cavanough not only took out the leading trainer for the 10th time but his sprinter, The Monstar, also tied for Horse of the Year honours with the Tim Donnelly-trained Jo Jo Girl.
He also claimed the inaugural SDRA 2YO of the Year with talented filly Loved Up.
The Monstar won six races during the 2013-14 season, including an unforgettable win in the $50,000 Flat Knacker (900m) on Albury Gold Cup day.
The talented four-year-old is owned by Cavanough, Graham Edgar, Jeff Armstrong and Glenn Chapman.
Loved Up won two races for the season and also proved ultra-competitive in two metropolitan starts at Randwick and Moonee Valley.
LEADING Melbourne jockey Brad Rawiller is set to make a rare appearance at Albury Racing Club’s meeting today.
Rawiller has three mounts on the seven-race card, all for Wagga trainer Brad Witt.
It is the only Southern District meeting for the week and has attracted capacity fields for all seven races.
Although Rawiller rarely rides at Albury, he is no stranger and won the 2011 Albury Gold Cup aboard Growl for trainer David Hayes.
EMERGING trainer Nick Ryan is starting to make his presence felt in the Southern District ranks.
The former leading jockey claimed the second winner of his fledgling training career when Strongman romped to a 10-length victory in the $10,500 Hay Gold Cup (1800m) on Saturday.
Strongman ($5.50) was only a recent stable addition, being previously trained from the Tom Ollerton stable.
Ryan will saddle up Purrplexed at Albury today and will be looking for back-to-back wins after scoring his first victory as a trainer at Albury on Melbourne Cup day.
