Tylan Graham was jailed in Wodonga Magistrates Court this week, only a few weeks after being bailed in Albury court on charges of police pursuit, reckless driving and car theft.
Graham attended the scene only a few hours after the fatal crash, and was allegedly caught driving at 150km/h in a stolen car during a police chase the following month.
On Monday, police again arrested the 20-year-old in Wodonga following triple zero calls about a silver Holden Commodore being driven erratically with no headlights.
Officers caught up with Graham’s vehicle on Kelliher Avenue about 12.45am and took up position to intercept it on Victoria Cross Parade.
Graham, who had smoked ice before the incident, moved from the driver seat into the passenger seat, left the car in drive, and jumped out the side door.
The Commodore rolled into a centre median strip and came to a stop in a garden bed.
Two police officers chased after him on foot for about 250 metres and arrested him after he tripped over near Pearce Street.
He abused and struggled with the officers as they tried to take him into custody, and was again aggressive and abusive in the police cells.
Graham appeared in court on Monday and was given a six-week sentence on charges including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, unlicensed driving and resisting police.
He had breached all conditions of his bail in NSW, where he will have multiple charges of car theft and police pursuit awaiting him once he’s released from jail in Victoria.
The 20-year-old had been due to return to Albury Local Court next Tuesday.
Magistrate Tony Murray previously told the court he was concerned by the fact Graham tried to avoid police capture every time they came near him.
