Four Tibetan monks held a pet blessing ceremony in Memorial Park as part of their three-week stay at the North East town.
Dozens of pooches, a rabbit and a cat all lined up for the ceremony.
The monks, exiled from Sera Je monastery in southern India, chanted as they placed rose petals, rice and blessed water on the animals’ heads, one-by-one.
“The monks are wishing them good health, long life and good conditions to live in with their owners,” the monks’ chaperone, Lozang Tenzin, from Bendigo’s Atisha Buddhist Centre, said.
“They are also praying for the animals so they sit in a position to gain a better re-birth in their future life.”
During their Peace Tour festival, the monks will host a range of workshops for the public to learn about their religion and way of life.
Chanting workshops and hands-on mandala and flag-making seminars will be held at Yackandandah this week.
