9:45PM: A WANGARATTA teenager escaped the clutches of a man who tried to pull her into a car in broad daylight in an abduction attempt being investigated by the Wangaratta police Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.

Detectives have been told the 16-year-old girl was followed by two men in a car after she left a milk bar in Edward Street at 1.30pm yesterday.
The men followed her into Blake Street and parked their old model silver-coloured sedan across the footpath so she couldn’t get past.The men asked if she wanted a lift, which she refused, before the front passenger got out, grabbed her by the waist and tried to lift her up.
The girl screamed and managed to get away, running towards Galen College where police were notified.
The passenger is described as being in his 40s, Caucasian, 170cm tall with a slim, muscular build with a dark beard.The driver was also in his 40s with dark hair.
