The bull riders, including New Zealand’s Frazer Babbington and Zack Brown from the US, will be competing in the Professional Bull Riders On The Murray event, a round of the PBR Australian Touring Pro Series to be held at the town’s recreation reserve.
Secretary of the Barooga PBR On The Murray committee, Dean Miller, said fans of the sport were anticipating one of the toughest PBR Touring Pro Series events of the year, with the round being held at Barooga for the first time this year.
“The field of riders consists of numerous champions from all levels of the sport— current and past — from all around Australia as well as the big names from overseas,” he said.
“Zack, in particular, is sure to be the focus of attention for the spectators.
“He arrived in Barooga on Tuesday afternoon and is visiting schools in the area and doing media interviews to promote the event.
“He is going fishing on Thursday and then a cruise up the Murray River.
“He is a keen fisherman and participant in water sports.”
Brown, 33, lives at Santa Fe, Texas, but spends time in Hawaii when not on the bull riding circuit.
He was crowned PBR Rookie of the Year in 2004, has been a pro-rider for 12 years and has career earnings of $826,000.
He has competed around the globe, achieved a top four world ranking in 2009 and recently won the Sunshine Coast championship.
In addition to the PBR Bull Ride, a number of other activities have been included in this year’s program, including the Barooga Ute Show starting at 1pm.
Rodeo queen entrant Dani Quinsee will provide a barrel racing demonstration, plus there will be kids rides, food stalls and clothing stalls.
Organisers are also providing a mechanical bull for tomorrow night’s bull draw at the Barooga Hotel, from 7pm.
A film crew will be on location on Saturday filming a pilot titled Wrecking Ball, about an ex-bull riding champion, played by Matt Nable.
Tickets are offered for pre-sale at the Barooga General Store in Vermont Street or can be purchased at the recreation reserve gate.
