ALBURY ART GALLERY
This year’s TAFE Art & Design Graduate exhibition celebrates the output of students from the Albury Campus of TAFE NSW Riverina Institute. The exhibition showcases work by the next generation of artists from the Riverina region. Artist talk 5.30pm, and the opening, 6pm, both on December 13. Free event.

LAVINGTON LIBRARY
Laughter and Games showcases playful toys and games from the AlburyCity collection, presenting a number of childhood favourites from years past. The exhibit looks at toys and children’s playthings from the early 1900s to the 1960s. From a 1960s Space Station Morse Signalling Set and playing cards to puzzles, dolls and tea sets, as well as an Albury-Wodonga board game, there is something for everyone.

THOROUGHFARE — INSIDE ALBURY’S TRANSPORT HUB
ALBURY LIBRARY MUSEUM
A look at Albury’s transportation industry as it moved from horse-drawn carriages to the motor car. It draws on the site history of Albury’s 526-540 Kiewa Street, now home to the Albury Library Museum. Discover the stories behind some of the businesses that operated along Albury’s major transport thoroughfare. The site has been home to myriad owners and its uses are a reflection of the time, advances in technology and the people who worked there. The exhibition is filled with significant objects and stories relating to Crawford and Co stables, West’s Motors garage, Azor Robbins and Alex Porter mechanics, Blacklocks motor cycle and car repairs and the Murray Valley Coaches depot.

GROWTH RINGS — UNEARTHING THE ALBURY BOTANIC GARDENS

Unearthing the history of Albury’s much loved Botanic Gardens, this exhibition will captivate the visitor. Showcasing the stunning botanic illustrations created by local botanical artists and displaying turn of the century textile costumes the exhibition recreates the 1900s botanic scene and tells the history of gardens. Visitors will enjoy this indoor and outdoor botanic experience. Programs include Guided tours of the exhibition every Saturday at 11am, and Art workshops for adults and children. ATTACK: JAPANESE MIDGET SUBMARINES IN SYDNEY HARBOUR

On the night of May 31, 1942, three Japanese midget submarines entered the waters of Sydney Harbour. The surprise attack resulted in chaos and panic in the nation’s largest and oldest city and left an indelible mark on Australian identity and the course of our history. To mark the 70th anniversary of this extraordinary event and its importance, Mosman Art Gallery commissioned artist Ken Done to interpret and respond to this remarkable story.

BEACH, BUSH AND BATTLERS: PHOTOGRAPHS BY JEFF CARTER

The Jeff Carter photographs in Beach, Bush & Battlers have been selected from his remarkable, historically significant archive of over 50,000 works celebrating the lives of everyday Australians in rural, outback, urban and coastal communities dating from the late 1940s through to today. Curator Sandra Byron, the leading expert on Carter’s work, says about the exhibition: “Carter’s iconic images are a testament to his respect for ordinary people and his commitment to the Australian landscape and environment.” Carter (also an acclaimed author and award-winning film-maker), continued to travel and photograph into his eighties. When not on the road he lived on his 45 hectare property, Glenrock Farm Wildlife Refuge, Foxground, which he had gazetted into a Wildlife Refuge in 1962.
