After spending the past three seasons as the league’s operations manager, McGlynn, 28, will take over from Tom O’Connor on February 1 amidst sweeping administrative changes.
“It’s a daunting role but exciting at the same time,” McGlynn said yesterday.
“After the success of season 2012 now is a time to consolidate our standing as well as build for the future.
“The football landscape across the state is undergoing major changes and it’s imperative the league continues to develop and adapt.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
McGlynn joined the league after five years as a television journalist and has a bachelor’s degree in communication and media as well as sport and recreation.
Outgoing Ovens and Murray chairman Greg Claney said McGlynn would be the ideal replacement for O’Connor who stepped down after five seasons at the helm.
“With the new North East Commission, the league felt it was important to appoint a person with a background in the league,” Claney said.
“Aaron will bring a fresh face to the main role.
“It is a credit to our outgoing general manager that he’s developed the skills in Aaron that were appealing to the league.”
Huge administration changes have taken place in the wake of a statewide review conducted last year with former Murray Bushrangers general manager John Byrne heading up the North East Commission.
O’Connor will remain with the league until March when his current contract expires and will assist his successor with preparations for the next season.
