Police say the victim, 17, was stabbed four times in the back and neck by his attacker, 18, in a domestic dispute near the corner of Corella and Wantigong streets yesterday morning.
They later charged the attacker with reckless wounding.
The victim was rushed to Albury Base Hospital hospital in a serious but stable condition where he remained overnight.
Another male, believed to be about 18, was taken to hospital with a stab wound to the arm.
Resident of nearby Plover Street Bevan Ohalloran was inside watching TV when he heard “threats” being made just after 11am.
“We heard words exchanged from (two) parties,” Mr Ohalloran said.
“There were three that came to get this guy (in his home).
“Threats were being made from both sides.”
The three males then left.
Mr Ohalloran went back inside his home but heard the males come back about “10 or 15 minutes later”.
He heard yelling and the kicking of doors come from inside a unit and went outside his home to see what was going on.
“I saw a young fellow on the side of the road taking his shirt off with a stab wound to the back,” Mr Ohalloran said.
“The other two guys that were with him walked off up Corella Street.
“One of the guys from the group was stabbed and the guy inside the house had stab wounds as well.
“It’s happened before, other stuff has gone down across the road but nothing like this.
“It does make you a bit wary.”
A spokesman from NSW police media confirmed the victim and attacker knew each other.
Albury Wodonga Health executive director of clinical operations Catherine O’Connell said X-rays would determine whether the victim’s wounds were more serious than just soft-tissue punctures.
