Yet that’s exactly the kind of scenery the Vans Skate Team say they relish.
The top skaters made an appearance at Wodonga’s revamped skate park yesterday for a demo and sausage sizzle hosted by Dean Street skate shop Timmy G’s.
Van team skater Dave “Battle Cat” Harris said he always enjoyed coming to Albury-Wodonga.
“There’s a couple of younger friends that are always really friendly and take us street skating,” he said.
In the past they’ve taken him to their own “home-made” skating areas as well as shown him places to skate around town.
Mr Harris said they enjoyed finding new and exciting places to test their tricks, as well as often a more relaxed attitude from the local authorities.
“To tell you the truth it’s a bit more refreshing in the country, you find that police officers are a lot more understanding of it and you can skate around more,” he said.
