FRIENDSHIPS will be put aside when the NSW Waratahs and NSW Kookaburras clash in today’s under-14 boys gold medal match at Lauren Jackson Sports Centre.
And Waratahs coach Daniel Palmer says his side will enter the decider full of confidence after going through the tournament undefeated.
The Burras are also undefeated, but there can only be one winner.
“It should be a cracker and we’ll be backing ourselves,” Palmer said after yesterday’s 79-47 semi-final win against the South Australian Magpies in Albury.
“We haven’t played them yet, only practice games.”
Both teams topped their pools, with the Burras earning a shot at silverware after yesterday’s 71-43 win against the Tasmanian Devils in Albury.
The final will see Tahs prodigy Matur Matauch, of Armidale, come up against Burras’ star Lachlan Dent, of Illawarra.
Palmer said both youngsters had bright futures.
“The other team has Lachie Dent who’s another prospect,” he said.
Palmer said he expected a close final.
“I think our advantage is definitely inside and I think there advantage is the perimeter,” he said.
“It makes for a good game.
“The boys know each other well.
“They’ve played against each other plenty of times.
“You always have to back yourself, I suppose.
“We always thought we’d be there at the end.”
