Sharks sealed top spot with a hard-fought 6-5 victory against Newcastle at the Albury Swim Centre yesterday.
The Ovens and Murray powerhouse defeated fellow local team Albury Tigers on Saturday morning and was too good for Wyong and the Canberra-based Tuggeranong.
Sharks will meet Wyong today in the first versus fourth semi-final while Newcastle will play Tuggeranong in the second versus third second semi-final.
Albury Tigers finished fifth and will play a consolation final against the loser of Sharks and Wyong.
In the women’s draw, Canberra team Nordek finished on top with three wins and a draw from its four games.
Sharks finished second with two wins, a draw and a loss while Tuggeranong, Easts and Albury rounded out the pool.
Sharks will meet Tuggeranong in their semi-final today while Nordek will clash with Easts.
Ovens and Murray Water Polo Association president and tournament organiser Jim Bruce said he’d been blown away with the standard of games and sportsmanship.
“The quality of water polo has been sensational all weekend,” Bruce said.
“But I’ve really been blown away with the level of sportsmanship.
“Even though it’s a social tournament everyone has played in the right spirit while still playing hard.”
In B grade, Nordek finished on top of the eight-team pool.
Local teams Pool Pirates and Northside finished second and third respectively and Easts rounded out the top four.
Wagga, Tuggeranong, Sharks and Bowral rounded out the group.
In the women’s B-grade draw Pool Pirates finished on top, Northside was second, Wagga was third and Bowral finished fourth.
Finals will start at 8am today at the Albury and Lavington Swim Centres.
