The trouble started at 10.21pm when Albury Civic firefighters were called to a burning rubbish bin in Thurgoona St.
Residents helped extinguish that fire but as firefighters left the scene flames were seen at Albury Botanic Gardens.
A palm tree had been set alight and destroyed.
Later, a small excavator was found alight in David Street and an industrial bin was found burning behind Dean Street pub, The Bended Elbow.
There was some minor damage to the building.
“It appears a fire bug is in the city,” Albury Civic fire station captain John Vandeven said.
