Wodonga police Acting Sgt Bryan Gain said 175 centimetre-high plastic, clear wrap was stretched across both lanes of Parkers Road near the intersection of Drages Road on Wednesday night.
Sgt Gain said a Wodonga motorcyclist, 56, collided with the wrap and was thrown off his bike about 11pm.
The man dislocated his ankle and suffered other injuries to his lower leg.
Sgt Gain said stretching the wrap across the road was an extremely stupid and serious act.
“The victim’s lucky he hasn’t sustained serious injuries and obviously this sort of behaviour can possibly result in death,” he said.
More plastic wrap was found in Gayview Drive.
Police have spoken to several nearby residents who reported hearing voices five to 10 minutes before the crash.
Sgt Gain urged the community to assist in finding those responsible.
Anyone with information or who heard anything suspicious should phone Wodonga police on (02) 6049 2600 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
