The talented midfielder coached Chiltern last season.
He was to coach the Swans for a second term before stepping down in December, citing work and personal reasons.
Durbidge led Chiltern to the Tallangatta league finals in his one season at the helm after finishing second last the previous year.
The 31-year-old has trained regularly at Bunton Park during the preseason while he weighed up his future.
The Goulburn Valley league star only decided this week that he would remain on the Border and has signed a clearance to join North Albury.
Durbidge is set to add further depth to the Hoppers’ midfield rotations.
North Albury travels to Mansfield this weekend for their first preseason match of the year.
After finishing with the wooden spoon last season, the Hoppers are expected to be one of the league’s big improvers after landing several big name recruits.
New coach Jason Akermanis, former St Kilda player Jason Gram and dual Doug Strang medallist Adam Prior are among the signings.
