MARK Webb (The Border Mail, July 13) states that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant but it is commonly recognised as a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming.
Wikipedia comments since the early 20th century, the Earth’s mean surface temperature has increased by about 0.8 degrees, with about two-thirds of the increase occurring since 1980.
Scientists are more than 90 per cent certain that it is primarily caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases produced by human activities such as deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels.
The increased concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is soaking up more heat.
Scientists tell us that global warming will also lead to more extremes of weather.
While carbon dioxide may be an essential gas for the growth of all plant life, so is fertiliser, I suggest you can have too much of both.
