The Corowa champion won back-to-back Archie Dennis medals in the former Coreen and District league in 1953 and 1954 for Rennie before launching one of the truly great O and M careers.
Sandral joined Corowa in 1955 and made such an impact he became the target of VFL powerhouse Melbourne which would go on to win three premierships in succession under the coaching of Norm Smith.
Melbourne secretary Jim Cardwell clinched the signature of Sandral and he was selected to play on the half-forward flank in the Demons’ 1956 flag-winning team against Collingwood in front of 115,803 people at the MCG.
Sandral lasted only one more season with the Demons before returning to Corowa to start his own coaching career in 1958-1959.
The champion centre half-back won the first of his three Morris Medals in 1959.
He also won the medal in 1962 and 1965, but premiership glory at Corowa eluded Sandral with the Spiders finishing runner-up in the grand final to Benalla in 1963.
Sandral also finished a brilliant 164-match career with five successive best and fairests from 1960.
His son Dennis has also been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Sandral joins the late Cleaver Bunton, Wangaratta Rovers superstar Robbie Walker and four-time Hawks premiership coach and star centreman Neville Hogan as legends of the competition.
This year’s induction night will be held on July 3 at the SS&A Club.
