Co-owners Hamish Nugent and Rachel Reed were recognised as the most exciting addition to the dining scene beyond Melbourne in the past year for their dining experience offering a blend of Japanese and European influences.
Regional Wine List of the Year accolades went to Beechworth restaurant Provenance — home to last year’s chef of the year Michael Ryan and his partner and winemaker Jeanette Henderson.
Provenance was the only North East restaurant to this year receive two hats.
North East restaurants to take home one-hat honours were Simone’s, Bright, and The Terrace Restaurant, Wahgunyah.
Simone’s was also a finalist for Regional Restaurant of the Year.
Elsewhere, Albury’s Green Zebra cafe has tasted success in the Restaurant and Catering Association’s Awards for Excellence (southern NSW) for the second successive year.
At a ceremony in Wollongong last night, the Dean Street eatery was again named best breakfast restaurant and best coffee-tea house.
Green Zebra had four rivals in the breakfast category, including Holbrook’s Submarine Cafe.
The Holbrook diner was also a finalist in the best cafe-restaurant section, losing out to the Terracotta Restaurant at Murrumburrah.
The Border’s other contender was the Indian Tandoori restaurant.
It was beaten by Kohli’s Indian Restaurant, of Batemans Bay, in the category for the best Indian-subcontinental restaurant.
