Caine Allan Nichols has been in custody since September 25 after he was charged and pleaded guilty to the theft from Michael Hill Jewellers in Centro Albury two days earlier.
Nichols, 28, of Breen Street, appeared in Albury Court yesterday via video-link, where magistrate David O’Connor indicated he would be serving a jail term for the crime.
Mr O’Connor said Nichols had “a lengthy string of dishonesty offences”, and had breached a suspended sentence when he stole the jewellery.
Police prosecutor Sgt Shannon Lewis sought an adjournment to allow for a compensation claim of more than $13,000 to be lodged before the matter was finalised.
The court had previously been told Nichols and two others were in the store about 11.13am on September 23, where they browsed for a short time before he made his way to an unlocked display cabinet.
He reached inside and took a display board holding eight gold bracelets valued at $24,634, and put it down the front of his pants.
Police arrested Nichols at his Lavington home the next day.
He admitted to stealing the bracelets and showed police to where four of the bracelets, valued at $11,478, were buried.
A fifth bracelet was later recovered but three others remain missing.
Mr O’Connor adjourned the matter for sentencing on October 22.
