With Albury, Wagga and Young harness racing clubs staging their premier meeting one week apart, the clubs are putting up three separate bonuses.
There will be a $1000 cash bonus for the best performed Riverina-trained horse over the three meetings, the highest point scorer over the three cups and a random draw for any trainer who has a starter in any of the three feature races.
Wagga Harness Racing club chief executive Graeme White said the bonuses would add further interest to the meetings.
“It’s the first time that the three major cups in the Riverina fall one week apart,” White said.
“So the clubs got together and decided to offer a couple of bonuses to help attract runners and generate a bit more interest.
“It’s each club major meeting for the year and we just thought we would do something additional.
“The best part about the random draw is that every trainer is eligible, while the best performed Riverina-trained horse is another incentive for the locals.”
The dates are Albury on March 1, Wagga on March 8 and Young on March 15.
