The Rivalea Fishing Platform, located at Rowers Park in Corowa, was officially opened by Member for Albury Greg Aplin.

Corowa mayor Fred Longmire and staff from the Department of Primary Industries were also at the launch.

“It’s magnificent,” Cr Longmire said.

“It’s another addition to the riverfront and there’s disability access to make it accessible for everyone.

“The platform will be enjoyed by locals and visitors well into the future.”

The fishing platform was identified as a community priority when the Riverfront Masterplan was developed in 2010.

The project took 18 months to construct with funding from Rivalea Australia ($25,000) and the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust through the Department of Primary Industries ($24,800).

Cr Longmire said there had also been generous support provided by Focus Engineering, which managed the construction of the fishing platform and donated labour and equipment.

Focus Engineering engaged local businesses to assist with the construction process.

Volunteers helped with parts of the project such as painting and landscaping.

Twelve large piles support the steel structure, with recycled timber being used for the decking, steps and handrail.

Large logs have been placed underneath the fishing platform as aquatic habitat to attract fish for anglers.
