No doubt Ralph the Jack Russell-cross would disagree — it’s thanks to Facebook this pooch was reunited with his owners in record time.
Ralph’s owner, Sam Harris of Lavington, said her husband had taken Ralph with him when he went out to Lake Hume on Friday.
But the cheeky pup had other ideas and took himself for a swim instead.
Mrs Harris said when she learnt Ralph had run away, she posted a picture of him on an Albury- Wodonga lost animals page on Facebook, in the hope someone would find him.
Unbeknownst to the Harris family, someone had indeed picked up Ralph — Jindera’s Shane Steedman, who was posting his own picture of the dog, on his last paws in the middle of Lake Hume, on a different page.
“Thankfully the people on both the pages linked us both together,” she said.
“It was all so quick, my husband went and picked him up from Jindera that afternoon.”
In fact, it was so quick, Mrs Harris’ three children didn’t even know Ralph, the family pet for five years, was missing.
“They didn’t even know about it until we were talking about it just now,” she laughed yesterday.
“We’re just so grateful someone picked him up, some people might have left him out there.
“We would have been so devastated if something happened.”
Mrs Harris said if it wasn’t for Facebook, she would have had to wait until the next day before the first hint of news would come through.
“He is microchipped, so we thought we’d have to wait to speak to the vets or pound,” she said.
“But within 20 minutes we knew where he was.”
Meanwhile, Ralph is back home and if he could we’re sure he’d snap a selfie in thanks.
