An estimated crowd of 2500 attended the Beechworth rodeo on Saturday and organisers say it was a huge success.
Competitors and spectators likewise were high in their praise for the first-up event.
It was so successful that it looks like being held again next year with sporting clubs getting the benefit from the money raised.
There has been criticism in some sectors about another rodeo being held and the possible poor treatment of animals.
But guidelines are so rigid there days that any such suggestion is ill-founded.
At Beechworth it was a case of people from the town and immediate area getting behind the idea and supporting it to the hilt.
Some of those present attended a rodeo for the first time and expressed their enthusiasm about returning next year.
The rodeo’s timing is ideal and fits in appropriately with others being held in the region at this time of year.
Full credit to the initiative and hard work put in by the organising committee.
