Mr Sykes announced this morning he would not be seeking pre-selection for the new seat of Euroa at the November poll.
He said he looked forward to the selection of a Nationals candidate to represent the constituents of Euroa, and he would support them as well as MPs who would assume responsibility for other parts of the Benalla electorate when electoral boundary changes were introduced.
Mr Sykes said after November he looked forward to reconnecting with his family and friends, as well as enjoying some travel and returning to his farm.
